Reliance Foundation Hospital launches cadaver transplants

Mumbai's Sir H.N. Reliance Foundation Hospital on Tuesday joined the ranks of a handful of institutions here offering cadaver transplants by performing a kidney transplant here, an official said.
The family of a 58-year old man, who died due to intra-cranial bleeding, decided to donate his organs like eyes, heart, liver, and kidneys to six other needy patients.Early on Tuesday, medicos at the hospital started the organ grafting procedures and by 10 a.m., they were ready to shift them (the organs) to various hospitals in the city.With the help of Mumbai police, a green corridor was created to transplant the heart to Fortis, Mulund, and the liver and one kidney to Global Hospital.
The pair of eyes were donated to a city eye bank, while the remaining kidney was transplanted on a patient in hospital itself."We are grateful to the family of the patient who took the bold step to donate vital organs and save six lives. We are hopeful that such an act of kindness will inspire more people to come ahead with cadaver donation which can save many lives," the Hospital said.
