First in Asia; woman with transplanted uterus to deliver at Pune hospital
UNI Aug 09, 2018
Galaxy Care Hospital from Pune has successfully transplanted a uterus into a woman's body, enabling her to become pregnant, making this the first case in Asia and ninth in the world.
The another magical as well as an emotional part of this story is that the uterus is donated by a mother of the woman which means a baby that is going to be delivered will be delivered from the same uterus from which a woman was born. In the past the lady had approached many hospitals for treatment since she was unable to deliver a baby but every time she was informed that nothing can be done in her case.
Speaking to UNI, Dr Shailesh Puntambekar, Medical Director of Galaxy Care Hospital, said "We are proud to say that this will be the first delivery by transplanting the uterus in Asia and ninth in the world." He also praised technology saying ''this is what we call make in India.''
