Coimbatore city surgeon, Dr. Palanivelu on October 31 was honoured by the British House of Commons for his original contribution to the development of laparoscopic surgery.

Dr. C Palanivelu received the award from UK Parliament Health Committee chairman Lord Baroness Lidia Antunes. He has become the first Indian to be recognised by the British Parliament. In the last 25 years of his career, Dr. Palanivelu has won several other international recognition for innovations in minimally invasive surgery in esophageal and pancreatic cancer that has been followed as global standards of care.
