Zinc inhibits collagenolysis by cathepsin K and matrix metalloproteinases in demineralized dentin matrix
Caries Research Nov 09, 2017
Altinci P, et al. - The effect of zinc on matrix-bound cathepsin K and matrix metalloproteinase activity in dentin was examined in this study. The authors revealed that cathepsin K-induced dentin collagen degradation could be strongly inhibited by zinc. For the stabilization of dentin matrices, zinc levels of ≥5 mM could be considered as a reliable threshold.
