Treves N, et al. - The association between Z-drugs and fractures, falls, and injuries were evaluated in this systematic review. The authors found an association between Z-drugs and an increased risk for fractures and suggested a possible increased risk for falls and injuries as well. However, studies included were observational and susceptible to confounding. Before prescribing these medications in older adults, physicians needed to consider these potential risks.
