Women with breast and uterine cancer are more likely to harbor germline mutations than women with breast or uterine cancer alone: A case for expanded gene testing
Gynecologic Oncology Mar 19, 2019
Fulk K, et al. - Researchers assessed 1,650 females with breast and uterine cancer (BUC) to study germline mutations in these females vs those with only breast cancer (BC) or uterine cancer (UC). They observed 14% of BUC cases tested positive for mutations in BC and/or UC genes, and were significantly more likely to test positive vs individuals with BC only, UC only or unaffected controls. They found women with BUC carry more hereditary cancer gene mutations than females with only breast or uterine cancer. Expanded genetic testing may be warranted in women with BUC.
