What is the impact of Epstein-Barr virus in peri-implant infection?
The International Journal of Oral & Maxillofacial Implants Jan 25, 2018
Canullo L, et al. - Herein, researchers qualitatively and quantitatively compared the profile of Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) at the external and internal implant surfaces between participants with peri-implantitis and healthy peri-implant tissues. They also examined the association between EBV and periopathogens in the microbiologic profile related to peri-implantitis. Data suggested that EBV could not be regarded as a microbiologic marker of peri-implantitis. Nevertheless, EBV possibly served as a risk factor and a peri-implantitis enhancer due to its positive correlations with pathogens associated with peri-implantitis.
