Vitamin D insufficiency is associated with insulin resistance independently of obesity in primary schoolchildren: The healthy growth study
Pediatric Diabetes May 08, 2018
Moschonis G, et al. - Researchers investigated the connections between vitamin D status and obesity with insulin resistance (IR) in children in Greece. Data were extracted with regard to the sociodemographic, anthropometric (weight, height), biochemical (fasting plasma glucose, serum insulin and 25(OH)D), pubertal status and physical activity. A high prevalence of vitamin D insufficiency was disclosed among schoolchildren in Greece, particularly among obese and insulin resistant ones. It was discovered that the significant association of vitamin D insufficiency with IR was possibly independent of obesity.
