Vitamin D and its pathway genes in myopia: Systematic review and meta-analysis
British Journal of Ophthalmology Jul 22, 2018
Tang SM, et al. - Researchers conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis of the relationship of blood vitamin D (25-hydroxyvitamin D, 25(OH)D) concentration and vitamin D pathway genes with myopia. Findings suggested an inverse association of 25(OH)D with the risk of myopia. There was a probability of 25(OH)D level to act as a proxy for time outdoors; as suggested by the lack of a genetic association. On the analysis of 4 single nucleotide polymorphisms in the VDR gene from 2 studies, experts noted no significant association with myopia.
