Visual outcome following bilateral non-arteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy: A systematic review and meta-analysis
BMC Ophthalmology | Sep 01, 2017
Keren S, et al. – This research strived to ascertain the possibility of speculating the visual outcome of the consecutive non–arteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy (NAION) event based on initial presentation. It also performed a comparison of the mean visual loss of firstly versus secondly affected eyes. Regardless of the existence of a weak connection between visual outcome in both eyes following bilateral NAION, the visual outcome could not be speculated with certainty, of a sequential contralateral NAION event based on the severity of visual loss in the first affected eye. Measures often taken after the first event could not improve the visual outcome of a second event if it occurred.
