Visual field outcomes in children treated for neurofibromatosis type 1–associated optic pathway gliomas: A multicenter retrospective study
Journal of AAPOS Dec 10, 2020
Heidary G, Fisher MJ, Liu GT, et al. - Researchers conducted the study for examining the effects of neurofibromatosis type 1–associated optic pathway gliomas (NF1-OPGs) on visual field (VF) function in a large cohort of children after treatment with chemotherapy. They conducted a retrospective, international, multicenter study of VF outcomes in patients treated with chemotherapy for NF1-OPGs. In total, 25 participants underwent VF testing using formal perimetric techniques. Children receiving initial chemotherapy for NF1-OPGs had a high prevalence of VF loss in the study cohort, which may be independent of visual acuity loss. The prevalence of VF loss and the impact of chemotherapy on VF outcomes in children with NF1-OPGs need to be completely determined by a larger, prospective study.
