Visceral, general, abdominal adiposity and atherogenic index of plasma in relatively lean hemodialysis patients
BMC Nephrology Aug 22, 2018
Zhou C, et al. - In this multicenter, cross-sectional study including relatively lean maintenance hemodialysis (MHD) patients, researchers explored and compared the links between different adiposity indices reflecting general, abdominal, visceral adiposity and arteriosclerosis risk with atherogenic index of plasma (AIP) by using univariate and multivariate linear regression models. They found that, a superior atherosclerosis risk assessment was offered by the hypertriglyceridemic waist phenotype (HW phenotype), visceral adiposity index (VAI), and lipid accumulation product (LAP), validated and convenient markers of visceral obesity, compared with classical anthropometric general/ abdominal adiposity indices, particularly in relatively lean MHD patients aged 40 years or older.
