Virtual-reality performance correlates significantly with real-life cataract surgical performance
Journal of Cataract & Refractive Surgery Apr 16, 2019
Jacobsen MF, et al. - Researchers investigated the relation of performance on a virtual-reality simulator (Eyesi simulator performance score) with real-life cataract surgical performance at 9 different Ophthalmology Departments in Denmark and at the Copenhagen Academy for Medical Education and Simulation. The candidates conducted 3 consecutive video recorded phacoemulsification surgeries that were evaluated by masked raters using the objective structured assessment of cataract surgical skills (OSACSS) scoring system. With a Pearson correlation of 0.65, they reported a statistically significant association between Eyesi Simulator score and mean OSACSS score across all experience levels.
