Vertebral fracture is associated with myocardial infarction in incident hemodialysis patients: A Korean nationwide population-based study
Osteoporosis International May 15, 2020
Kwon YE, Choi HY, Oh HJ, et al. - Researchers intended to confirm the link between fracture and myocardial infarction (MI) among patients suffering from chronic kidney disease (CKD), utilizing the Korean Health Insurance Review & Assessment Service Database. They obtained data for incident CKD stage 3 to 5 patients as well as patients who started hemodialysis (HD) between July 2014 and June 2018. Experts analyzed overall 38,935 patients (HD, 11,379; pre-dialysis CKD, 27,556). A significant link of fracture with MI was revealed in the HD group, but not in the pre-dialysis CKD group, in multiple logistic regression analysis. Overall, findings demonstrated that fracture was significantly related to MI, particularly for vertebral fractures patients, in a sample of HD patients.
