Vegetarian diet and risk of gout in two separate prospective cohort studies
Clinical Nutrition Apr 02, 2019
Chiu THT, et al. - Researchers prospectively examined how a vegetarian diet is related to gout by following 4,903 participants in the Tzu Chi Health Study (Cohort1, recruited in in 2007 to 2009) and 9,032 participants in the Tzu Chi Vegetarian Study (Cohort2, recruited in 2005) until end of 2014. They also sought whether hyperuricemia influences this relationship. Observations revealed a lower risk of gout in correlation with the Taiwanese vegetarian diet. Baseline hyperuricemia could have no impact on this protective association.
