Vascular density and retinal function in patients with retinitis pigmentosa evaluated by swept-source OCT angiography and microperimetry
Ophthalmologica Apr 23, 2020
Corazza P, Cirafici P, Testa V, et al. - In the present study, the researchers determined the retinal and choroidal vessel density in the macular area with OCT angiography (SS-OCTA) in patients affected by retinitis pigmentosa (RP) and compared their data with healthy individuals, as well as studied a possible morphofunctional correlation by microperimetry (MP1). For this analysis, they involved 40 eyes of 40 patients affected by RP and 24 eyes of 24 healthy individuals. This investigation represents the first study which compares data from MP1 and SS-OCTA with the largest patient cohort. Compared with healthy individuals, RP patients exhibited a reduction in both the retinal and choroidal vascular network in the macular area.
