Utility of ultra-wide-field imaging for screening of AIDS-related cytomegalovirus retinitis
Ophthalmologica Nov 03, 2020
Du KF, Chen C, Huang XJ, et al. - Researchers conducted this prospective study to explore the potential use of ultra-wide-field (UWF) imaging for the screening of cytomegalovirus retinitis (CMVR) in AIDS patients. The sample consisted of 94 patients whose CD4 count was below 200 cells/μl. By the indirect ophthalmoscopy, 27 eyes in 18 patients were diagnosed with CMVR. Data reported that the sensitivity and specificity of UWF imaging, respectively, were 96.3% and 100%. UWF imaging is capable of documenting various CMVR lesions and CMVR screening related to AIDS when an ophthalmologist is not available for examination.
