Usefulness of mid-week hemoglobin measurement for anemia management in patients undergoing hemodialysis: A retrospective cohort study
BMC Nephrology Aug 07, 2019
Bae SY, Jeon JW, Kim SH, et al. - In this single-center retrospective analysis, researchers determined alterations in hemoglobin (Hb) levels and erythropoiesis-stimulating agent (ESA) doses based on the Hb measurement day among hemodialysis (HD) patients. At the Asan Medical Center, the day for predialysis Hb measurement was changed from early-week days to mid-week days, starting September 2013. They analyzed medical records of 92 patients who received maintenance HD between September 2012 and August 2014. Findings revealed a significant association of mid-week predialysis Hb measurements, vs early-week measurements, with lower ESA doses without a change in Hb levels.
