Usage and survival implications of surgical staging of inguinal lymph nodes in intermediate-to high-risk, clinical localized penile cancer: A propensity-score matched analysis
Urologic Oncology: Seminars and Original Investigations Jan 06, 2018
Woldu SL, et al. - Researchers attempted to discern the usage of surgical staging of inguinal lymph nodes (SSILNs) in the United States for intermediate to high-risk, clinically localized penile squamous cell cancer (SCC). In addition, they investigated the patient and hospital factors related to an omission of this staging. They also analyzed the effect on survival. Findings disclosed a low utilization of SSILN for penile SCC. Data did not exhibit any notable variation since the publication of guidelines in the United States. It was observed that the nonacademic institutions displayed a less likelihood of adhering to the recommendations for the performance of SSILNs. A connection was found between the omission of SSILNs with a marked rise in mortality.
