Urinary tract infections due to ESBL-producing Enterobacteriaceae in renal transplant recipients: A systematic review and meta-analysis
Transplant Infectious Disease | Aug 19, 2017
Alevizakos M, et al. - A systematic review and meta–analysis was performed to assess the impact of urinary tract infections (UTIs) due to extended-spectrum beta-lactamase (ESBL)–producing Enterobacteriaceae in renal transplant recipients. Findings suggested the possibility of UTI development caused by an ESBL–PE in one of 10 renal transplant recipients (RTR), and these patients faced an almost 3 times greater risk of recurrence. A more rigorous monitoring of RTR, both during and after resolution of their infection, should be evaluated in order to reduce the incidence and the clinical impact of these resistant infections.
