Urinary symptoms are associated with certain urinary microbes in urogynecologic surgical patients
International Urogynecology Journal Aug 21, 2018
Fok CS, et al. - Researchers investigated the correlation of the preoperative bladder microbiome with urinary symptoms prior to and after urogynecologic surgery. They analyzed the data collected from the validated Overactive Bladder symptom questionnaires (OABq) filled by 126 participants. In women undergoing pelvic organ prolapse/stress urinary incontinence surgery, Atopobium vaginae and Finegoldia magna are the two specific bacterial species detected in bladder urine that are associated with preoperative urinary symptom severity. Adjacent pelvic floor niches could be the reservoir for Atopobium vaginae.
