Unmet needs of activities of daily living among a community-based sample of disabled elderly people in Eastern China: A cross-sectional study

Chen S, et al. - Analyzing 303 older adults from 15 communities in Nanjing, China, researchers investigated the prevalence and risk factors of unmet needs among the disabled elderly in China to inform government corrective action. Findings revealed that, among the elderly, a high percentage of unmet needs for activities of daily life that required going outside the bedroom and spiritual aspects. Increase in unmet needs was noted with worsening disability status in instrumental activities of daily living, more distanced relationships with caregivers and lower incomes of caregivers. More actions are required from government and caregivers to prevent or reduce unmet needs among the elderly.
