Universal vs selective ultrasonography to screen for large-for-gestational-age infants and associated morbidity
Ultrasound in Obstetrics & Gynecology May 06, 2018
Sovio U, et al. - Researchers performed a comparison of the diagnostic effectiveness of selective vs universal ultrasonography as a screening test for large-for-gestational-age (LGA) infants. In addition, they determined if previously described ultrasound markers of excessive fetal growth could identify suspected LGA fetuses that are at increased risk of adverse neonatal outcome. Results revealed that third-trimester screening by universal ultrasound fetal biometry increases the detection rate of LGA infants among nulliparous women and, combined with abdominal circumference growth velocity, recognizes those at higher risk of adverse neonatal outcome.
