Unilateral primary aldosteronism as an independent risk factor for vertebral fracture

Clinical Endocrinology Jan 23, 2020

Yokomoto-Umakoshi M, Sakamoto R, Umakoshi H, et al. - This retrospective cross-sectional study was undertaken to determine if unilateral primary aldosteronism (PA) was correlated with the prevalence of vertebral fracture (VF). Two hundred ten hypertensive patients were identified whose clinical data were available for case-detection results. Using captopril challenge tests, 152 patients were diagnosed with PA. After adjusting for age and gender, unilateral PA was an independent risk factor for VF. For patients with unilateral PA, serum cortisol concentrations were higher in those with VF after the 1-mg dexamethasone suppression test than those without.
