Type II odontoid fracture in elderly patients treated conservatively: Is fracture healing the goal?
European Spine Journal Jan 29, 2019
Lofrese G, et al. - Researchers analyzed 50 geriatric individuals to estimate the relationship of the functional outcome of elders with type II odontoid fractures treated conservatively with their radiological consequence. They observed no difference in ASA, Charlson Comorbidity Index (CCI), and modified Rankin Scale (mRS-pre) among the 2 groups ie, those who reached a stable union and those who had stable non-union. They noticed no impacts of age, sex, ASA, mRS-pre, fracture dislocation and radiological consequence on functional outcome. They reported a correlation of gender (female) and high values of CCI with worse Neck Disability Index (NDI).
