Treatment of open-angle glaucoma with iStent implantation combined with phacoemulsification in Polish Caucasian population
Clinical Ophthalmology Feb 13, 2021
Kozera M, Konopińska J, Mariak Z, et al. - In this prospective case series, researchers sought to assess the impact of iStent (the first-generation trabecular bypass) implantation with phacoemulsification on the intraocular pressure (IOP) and glaucoma medication in patients with mild to moderate open-angle glaucoma (OAG) and cataract in a Polish Caucasian population. The sample consisted of 57 patients (78 eyes) aged 40 years or older with mild-to-moderate glaucoma, who qualified for the iStent first-generation implantation in conjunction with phacoemulsification. Mean IOP reduced from 18.5 mmHg to 16.1 mmHg postoperatively at two years. The iStent device, combined with cataract surgery, has been used to significantly and positively reduce both IOP and drug use in 24-month follow-up in patients with coexisting OAG and cataract in Polish patients.
