Treatment of macular edema after pars plana vitrectomy for idiopathic epiretinal membrane using intravitreal dexamethasone implant: Long-term outcomes
Ophthalmologica Mar 22, 2019
Chatziralli I, et al. - Researchers estimated the effectiveness and tolerability of intravitreal dexamethasone implant for the treatment of macular edema after pars plana vitrectomy (PPV) for epiretinal membrane (ERM) removal. They observed 27 candidates previously diagnosed with macular edema after PPV for ERM removal and treated with either intravitreal dexamethasone implant or without intervention. Significant improvement in best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) and reduction in central retinal thickness (CRT) at months 1, 6, and 12 following treatment with intravitreal dexamethasone implant. They observed no serious adverse events. They found the necessity of a single implant among 80% of candidates treated with intravitreal dexamethasone.
