Transcatheter aortic valve replacement outcomes in patients with native vs transplanted kidneys: Data from an international multicenter registry
Canadian Journal of Cardiology Jan 24, 2019
Witberg G, et al. - In this retrospective cohort study using data from 16 transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) centers (13,941 patients), researchers compared the outcomes in renal transplant recipients (RTRs) undergoing TAVR to matched patients with native kidneys and similar kidney function. In RTRs, TAVR appears safe. These patients had mortality rates similar to matched patients with native kidneys. RTRs displayed an increased risk of progressive renal impairment and necessity for hemodialysis initiation after TAVR. Data emphasize the significance of minimizing contrast load during TAVR, especially in RTRs.
