Three-year outcomes of Cionni-modified capsular tension ring implantation in children under eight years old with ectopia lentis
American Journal of Ophthalmology Dec 04, 2020
Cai L, Han X, Jiang Y, et al. - Researchers conducted this prospective clinical cohort study to assess 3-year visual outcomes and complications post-Cionni-modified capsular tension ring (MCTR) implantation with an intraocular lens (IOL) in ectopia lentis patients aged ≤ 8 years. One hundred one eyes of 57 patients < 8 years of age who underwent surgery for non-traumatic ectopia lentis were included between November 2015 and December 2016. In all eyes, best-corrected visual acuity improved significantly after surgery, particularly during the first 12 months. Implantation of in-the-bag IOL with Cionni MCTR is useful for visual rehabilitation in young children with ectopia lentis. To monitor IOL centration and stability, a close follow up of these patients is important. No serious postoperative complications have occurred, such as retinal detachment or endophthalmitis.
