Three‐year outcome of sulcus fixation of Baerveldt glaucoma implant surgery
Acta Ophthalmologica Mar 18, 2021
Mori S, Sotani N, Ueda K, et al. - In this prospective observational study involving 37 patients, researchers sought to assess the 3‐year surgical outcome of the sulcus fixation of Baerveldt glaucoma implant (BGI), focusing on corneal damage. Participants in the study were patients who underwent a median of two previous glaucoma surgeries and sulcus fixation of BGI for the first time. Preoperative and postoperative intraocular pressure (IOP), glaucoma drug score, corneal endothelial cell density (ECD), and logMAR‐converted best‐corrected visual acuity (VA) were measured in each patient until 36 months after surgery. In total, 51% (19/37) patients experienced complete treatment success, while 86% (32/37) had qualified success. IOP was reduced by sulcus fixation of BGI. ECD, on the other hand, decreased over time.
