The role of psychological theories in oral health interventions: A systematic review and meta-analysis

Nasab HS, et al. - Authors investigated the data to estimate the impact of psychological theories like health belief model (HBM), the theory of planned behavior (TPB), social cognitive theory (SCT), clinical theories (CT) and other theories (OT) on oral health interventions. They recorded statistically significant in improvement in oral health with a standardized mean difference (SMD) of HBM, 0.37. An insignificant SMD of SCT (0.05) was noticed in improving oral health. Overall, they found psychological interventions using OT, CT, HBM, and TPB efficient in magnifying oral health status. Whereas they did not report interventions using SCT efficient in improving oral health status.
