The role of psychological theories in oral health interventions: A systematic review and meta-analysis
International Journal of Dental Hygiene Feb 04, 2019
Nasab HS, et al. - Authors examined Pubmed, Scopus, Cochrane, and Web of Knowledge databases from the years 2000 to 2017 to assess the role of psychological theories like Health Belief Model (HBM), Theory of Planned Behavior(TPB), Social Cognitive Theory (SCT), Clinical Theories (CT) and Other Theories (OT) in oral health interventions. They found a statistically significant Standardized Mean Difference (SMD) of the HBM of 0.37 indicating an improvement in oral health. They reported psychological interventions that used OT, CT, HBM, and TPB, efficient in enhancing oral health status. They also concluded that interventions which used SCT were nonefficient in improving oral health status.
