The role of metabolic syndrome and its components in incident fracture: A 15-year follow-up among the Iranian population
Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism Feb 04, 2021
Amouzegar A, Asgari S, Azizi F, et al. - Researchers conducted the study for determining the influence of metabolic syndrome (MetS) and its components on the risk of hospitalized fractures, during a median follow-up of 15.9 years. In total, 7,520 candidates (4,068 women) aged ≥ 30 years were entered into the study. Data reported that the prevalence of Mets was 40.0% and 40.4% in men and women, respectively. There was a significant gender difference in the association between Mets and its components with an incident fracture. The risk of hospitalized fracture was increased for women with central adiposity, while men with high FPG had a decreased risk.
