The risk of ischemic and haemorrhagic stroke in idiopathic inflammatory myopathies: A swedish population-based cohort study
Arthritis Care & Research Aug 03, 2018
Svensson J, et al. - In idiopathic inflammatory myopathies (IIM), authors assessed the occurrence of ischemic (IS) and hemorrhagic stroke (HS) vs the general population. They also gauged how it varies by sex, age, clinical sub-diagnosis and time since IIM diagnosis. Newly diagnosed IIM patients were identified from the National Patient Register, while general population participants were identified from the Total Population Register. An elevated risk of both IS and HS was seen in individuals with IIM, however, stroke is still a rare event. In the groups with the highest absolute risk, especially older patients, prevention must be the focus.
