The resurgence of botulinum toxin injection for strabismus in children

Mahan M, et al. – An appraisal was carried out of the utility of botulinum toxin for the management of strabismus, in children. Regardless of its administration being generally accepted as a reasonable option in select cases, many strabismus surgeons did not completely embrace the treatment. This was partly attributed to the perceived disadvantages compared to surgery and difficulty in detecting the subsets with the highest potential for therapeutic success. The botulinum toxin illustrated a statistically equal success rate, but with the advantage of considerably less time under general anesthesia.
