The relationship between serum IGF-1, handgrip strength, physical performance and falls in elderly men and women
European Journal of Endocrinology Jun 02, 2018
Van Nieuwpoort C, et al. - In this observational cohort study, the researchers examined whether handgrip strength, physical performance and recurrent falls are related to serum IGF-1 levels in community-dwelling elderly. In participants of the Longitudinal Aging Study Amsterdam, they examined the relationship between IGF-1 and handgrip strength, physical performance and falls. This study was conducted on one thousand, two hundred ninety-two participants (633 men, 659 women). Results of this study suggested that lower IGF-1 levels were correlated with lower handgrip strength and worse physical performance, but less recurrent fallers particularly in men. It was observed in the findings that associations were often more robust in IGF-1-Q2.
