The relationship between global sleep score and inflammatory markers in obese adults from the United States
Nature and Science of Sleep Nov 13, 2019
Huang Y, et al. - In a cohort of obese adults, researchers explored the links between sleep quality and serum inflammatory markers. In total, 1,255 candidates completed comprehensive biological assessments. The connections between global sleep score and serum levels of inflammatory markers were examined. According to univariate analysis, higher global sleep score was associated with lower age, higher BMI and heavier perceived stress. Findings suggested a positive association of poor sleep with serum inflammatory marker levels among obese adults. Pro-inflammatory cytokines can provide a correlation between poor sleep and an increased risk of inflammatory diseases. In obese adults, adequate sleep may be especially important to prevent cardiovascular diseases.
