The relation between ischemia modified albumin levels and carotid intima media thickness in patients with rheumatoid arthritis
International Journal of Rheumatic Diseases Feb 01, 2019
Uslu AU, et al. - By evaluating the values of ischemia modified albumin (IMA) and carotid intima media thickness (CIMT), researchers assessed the role IMA has on atherosclerosis development and its clinical value in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Between June 2012 and March 2013, they conducted this prospective study at the Rheumatology Department of Necmettin Erbakan Meram Medical School, Turkey. There was no significant difference in age, sex and body mass index between the groups. The IMA and CIMT values were significantly higher in the patient group, and a positive correlation was seen between IMA, CIMT and Disease Activity Score of 28 joints. Since the patient group had higher IMA values than controls and because of their correlation with CIMT, in RA patients, IMA should be used as an early marker of atherosclerosis.
