The relation between distant metastasis and genetic change type in stage IV lung adenocarcinoma patients at diagnosis

The Clinical Respiratory Journal Oct 15, 2020

Ermin S, Batum O, Güvenç MS, et al. - In stage IV lung adenocarcinoma patients with genetic changes, researchers examined if and how the genetic change type is associated with the initial distant metastasis, considering the higher prevalence of brain metastasis in patients with positive epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) mutation, anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK), and C‐ROS oncogene 1 (ROS‐1) fusion change in lung adenocarcinoma. They assessed a total of 845 patients in this study. Observations suggest that patients with positive EGFR mutation are significantly more likely to exhibit lung and pleura metastases. Patients with positive ALK fusion change more frequently have pleura metastasis. In patients with positive ALK fusion change, significantly more multiple metastases were noted than single metastasis.
