The prognostic value of pain sensitization in patients with lateral epicondylitis
The Journal of Hand Surgery Jul 25, 2018
Roh YH, et al. - Researchers assessed the impact the influence of pain sensitization on the prognosis of lateral epicondylitis (LE) treated by self-stretching exercises and the use of a counterforce brace. Initially, pain sensitization was measured by assessing patients’ pressure pain thresholds (PPTs) in the contralateral middorsal forearm and administering a pain sensitization questionnaire (PSQ). Findings suggested an association of pain sensitization during the early stages of LE with initial symptom severity. An association of duration with persistently increasing disability after 1 year of nonsurgical treatment was noted.
