Hisinger-Mölkänen H, et al. - Via cross-sectional postal surveys, researchers assessed prevalence trends of asthma, asthma symptoms and allergic rhinoconjunctivitis over 20 years duration (1996 to 2016) in adults aged 20–69 years in the city of Helsinki, the capital of Finland. Findings revealed the levelling off of earlier reported rise of physician-diagnosed asthma prevalence in adults in Helsinki. In addition, significantly fewer symptoms were seen in asthmatics as compared to 20 years ago. A less frequent prevalence of allergic rhinoconjunctivitis was reported, compared to 10 years earlier. A reduction in smoking was reported but with an alarming rise in asthmatic young men.
