The impact of the christmas holiday effect on interdialytic weight gain in hemodialysis patients: A multicenter observational retrospective cohort study
Hemodialysis International Nov 09, 2020
Zimbudzi E, et al. - This study was undertaken to investigate the effect of the “Christmas holiday effect” on the interdialytic weight gain (IDWG) of hemodialysis patients. Researchers performed a retrospective cohort study of adult hemodialysis patients (over 18 years) across five dialysis units in Australia. They obtained demographic and clinical data from electronic medical records. They examined 252 patients, 69% of whom were male, with a mean (SD) age of 65.4 ± 15.3 years. After the Christmas holiday, absolute and relative IDWG was elevated significantly. The data considered that individualizing dialysis needs may improve outcomes for these patients.
