The impact of metabolic syndrome on 30-day outcomes following elective anterior cervical discectomy and fusions
Spine Feb 20, 2019
Malik AT, et al. - In this retrospective review of a prospective registry, the authors examined 1384 candidates to estimate the consequence of metabolic syndrome (MetS) on 30-day outcomes succeeding elective anterior cervical discectomy and fusions (ACDFs). They observed that the presence of MetS was correlated with a prolonged length of stay more than or equal to 3 days. They noticed no significant relationship between MetS and 30-day complications, 30-day reoperations, 30-day re-admissions, a non-home discharge, and death. Overall, they suggested that the presence of MetS did not influence 30-day outcomes following elective ACDF.
