The impact of diabetes mellitus on the clinical phenotype of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy
European Heart Journal Nov 01, 2018
Wasserstrum Y, et al. - Researchers investigated the influence of diabetes mellitus on the clinical phenotype of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) in this study involving 937 patients aged ≥ 40 years who were diagnosed with HCM. Patients were from two tertiary medical centers in Spain and Israel. The investigators focused on reviewing patient clinical characteristics. They also analyzed a propensity score matched cohort of 294 patients. Findings revealed a higher cardiovascular risk profile in patients with HCM and diabetes. These patients were found to be older and had a lower functional capacity and more heart failure symptoms due to diastolic dysfunction.
