The impact of deep surgical site infection on surgical outcomes after posterior adult spinal deformity surgery: A matched control study
European Spine Journal May 13, 2018
Haddad S, et al. - Authors assessed the morbidity of surgical site infection (SSI) in adult spinal deformity (ASD) and its effect on deformity correction and functional outcome. As per data, following posterior ASD surgery, SSI significantly affected the first postoperative year. Experts noted its association with more complications, unrelated revisions, and worst quality of life. Nonetheless, as differences in HRQoL scores between the 2 groups decreased, it’s negative impact seemed to be diluted by the second postoperative year. Association of infection and more unrelated complications and revisions was noted. At the different time intervals, deformity correction was maintained equally.
