The efficacy of aerobic exercise and resistance training as transdiagnostic interventions for anxiety-related disorders and constructs: A randomized controlled trial
Journal of Anxiety Disorders Feb 03, 2018
LeBouthillier DM, et al. - The current trial is performed to quantify the effects of aerobic exercise and resistance training on anxiety-related disorder (including anxiety disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and posttraumatic stress disorder) status, symptoms, and constructs. In addition, researchers determine whether both modalities of exercise were equivalent, and assess whether exercise enjoyment and physical fitness are associated with symptom reduction. In this work, both exercise modalities resulted in improvement in anxiety disorder symptoms and constructs. Each of the modality targeted different symptoms and constructs. Lower fitness was predictive of greater improvements in psychological distress and anxiety.
