Progress in Neuro-Psychopharmacology and Biological Psychiatry May 22, 2019
Jamilian H, et al. - Researchers performed this meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials in order to assess how vitamin D supplementation influences mental health; in patients with psychiatric disorders, they also evaluated the biomarkers of inflammation and oxidative stress. The final analyses included 11 effect sizes from nine studies. As per findings, vitamin D supplementation among patients with psychiatric disorders led to a positive effect on Beck Depression Inventory, Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index, glutathione, total antioxidant capacity and C-reactive protein levels. However, they noted no effect of the supplementation on other biomarkers of inflammation and oxidative stress.
