The effect of exenatide on thyroid-stimulating hormone and thyroid volume
European Thyroid Journal Aug 21, 2019
Sencar ME, Sakiz D, Calapkulu M, et al. - In diabetic patients without thyroid disease, researchers studied the impact of exenatide treatment on thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) and thyroid volume. Participants in the study were 46 diabetic patients without thyroid disease who were receiving exenatide treatment. According to findings, thyroid volume, free thyroxine, free tri-iodothyronine, and calcitonin levels were not significantly different before and after therapy. Thyroid volume was not affected by decreased TSH level or BMI decrease, and no correlation was identified between TSH level variation and BMI change. Exenatide treatment in patients with diabetes without thyroid disease significantly decreased serum TSH concentration for 6 months but did not affect thyroid volume.
