The course of chronic itch in hemodialysis patients: Results of a 4-year follow-up study of GEHIS (German Epidemiological Hemodialysis Itch Study)
Journal of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology Feb 15, 2019
Plewig N, et al. - In this study, investigators estimated 234 candidates to examine the progression of chronic itch among individuals who underwent hemodialysis (HD). They evaluated the sociodemographic data, routine laboratory values, comorbidities, health-related quality of life (HRQOL) (SF-12), depression and anxiety (HADS), sleep (duration and quality). They noticed 23 candidates who received a kidney transplant. Among those subjects suffering from chronic itch (CI) characteristics, the severity of CI and itch-related quality of life (ItchyQoL) were also noted. They observed 52 HD patients suffering from CI whereas in 52 CI had checked. They demonstrated CI, a persisting symptom in 50% of the HD cases. An improvement in HRQOL was recorded when it disappeared.
