The cost-effectiveness of meniscal repair vs partial meniscectomy in the setting of anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction
Arthroscopy Sep 04, 2018
Lester JD, et al. - Researchers compared the cost-effectiveness of anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction with meniscal repair to ACL reconstruction with partial meniscectomy. They created a decision-analytic Markov disease progression model with a 40-year horizon simulating outcomes after both meniscal repair and partial meniscectomy at the time of ACL reconstruction. Compared to partial meniscectomy, meniscal repair at the time of ACL reconstruction is more cost-effective. From ACL reconstruction with meniscus repair the total direct cost was $17,898 vs that with partial meniscectomy of $24,768.
